Will you investigate the continued short staffing concerns in County run Longterm Care homes causing burnout in staff and dissatisfaction in family members?

Answer

Certainly, that is something that I was unaware of.

The Covid19 pandemic has shown that those who are most vulnerable are often sidelined and invisible. Thank you for raising this important issue.

Please do reach out to to me directly to discuss any specifics that may be relevant. Perhaps your observations and experiences can lead us to find improvements. The lessons can also help other vulnerable sections of our community.

What will you do to resist AI infrastructure/data centres being built in our communities if they are proposed? It seems like there is a huge disconnect between what the people want and the choices those in power are making. We don’t want data centres EVER in New Tec!

Answer

Progress requires challenging what we do and why? I support progess and advances in technology. The AI and Data Centre debate is misplaced. Currently I can't find any reason for a technology company to invest in one here, there are numerous options that are better suited. Irrespective, protecting our environment from all forms of pollution and harm is an immediate issue that we should all work on. If the technology makes sense and is not harmful then I would be open to examining the benefits in NewTecumseth.

The roads in New Tecumseth are a common pain point for residents. At the rate we are growing, they will only get worse. How will you ensure these issues are fixed properly?

Answer

It's is common practice in all the municipalities I have lived in to see road improvements at election time. Sometimes it works to show effort.

The quality of the work surprises me still to this day. With all the equipment available the progress leaves me with a lot of questions about the value we are getting.

This is not I subject that I can comment on with any authority, so I will have to investigate it a lot deeper. If I receive the mandate to lead the council of NewTecumseth then I will be able to get better answers for us all.

What exactly have you done for Tottenham, with all the builds more cars on our town lines and the roads have become hazards especially in winter months.

Answer

There is nothing that I can claim to have done for Tottenham. What kind of solutions are you looking for? How would you like me to help?

What do you see as a priority for New Tecumseth in the coming year.

Answer

My first priority as head of council will be to get all members of the council to join in serving all our residents.

The current split in council will need to be rectified in order to make the best decisions for NewTecumseth.

The second priority has to be a resolution to the issues that divide our town. We are not the people of Alliston or the people of Beeton and the people of Tottenham. All of us are NewTecumseth and the unification has to start with unbiased leadership and a stronger vision for tomorrow.

Do you feel about the 5% tax increase to build another arena before we build a pool?

Answer

In the current economic climate I am not in favor of any increase in taxes. I do reserve the right to change my view if there is strong evidence that supports the need.

Perhaps someone could enlighten me on what makes this a pressing need. My limited view suggests that we are trying to honor a broken promise to appease part of the electorate.

Every taxpayers dollars are important and we should not burden the whole town with debt at the expense of what was a campaign promise of last century. Decisions should be made according to what services would stimulate the town and all residents.

Do you think it was the right description to build an ice rink over a pool, even though the town desperately needed a pool?

Answer

That probably would not have been a decision I would have made. The user data would guide my thoughts.

Questions like how many people use the current Ice Rinks? What is the cost per user and what are they charged? How many different people use the icepads and what is the projected increase?

How much does it cost to run a pool? What is the capacity and staffing levels?

When comparing the two, what is the average cost for use per individual? Considering equipment or training etc. Which benefits the most families?

Why are these the only two options? Lots of questions that I would like to ask before committing millions of dollars to any project.

This is an example of what happens when people don't vote. Millions of dollars budgeted for from such a small percentage of the electorate.

New Tecumseth is growing quickly. What does "smart growth" mean to you in practice - more density, more sprawl, or something else?

Answer

Smart growth for me is not just about homes. We have to consider the community and environment as a whole. A balance of some density produces economies of scale for some services but is not ideal in every environment. Having proper infrastructure to connect the growth makes for a society where people can choose the open spaces or elevated spaces according to their needs and budgets.

Lifestyle choices change and we should be able to accommodate young workers, small families, empty nesters' and those who need additional care. Each category has different values and needs to balance.

Employment, Schooling , Higher Education, Healthcare and Recreation all form part of what make us NewTecumseth.

What is your opinion on updating all traffic lights to be more responsive to traffic conditions instead of sitting at lights with no traffic!

Answer

My profession is Industrial Automation, so I view it as an easy fix. As your new Mayor I will be examining the technical details that staff propose and using the Five Why's to resolve some of the easy wins.

The cost and value for money well within the scope of my strengths, but I don't intend to micromanage the team. I will challenge them and enable them to get the job done in a fiscally responsible way. Doing it right the first time.

In your opinion, what is the best way to reduce homelessness in New Tecumseth? Further, are there any actions you are currently involved in that is meant to help this issue?

Answer

This is a painful subject.

Having grown up in a Third World country, this is an issue that is difficult to reconcile for an evolved society. We need to do better.

The reality however is that so many people are struggling to make ends meet and could easily land in the same predicament. The changes to eviction laws and the increased cost of living have the potential to make the situation much worse.

In a previous lifetime living in a housing co-operative provided a great deal of support for my family and enabled us to afford a high quality of life and dignity. My personal experience inspires me to leverage our collective potential and find pathways to success and hope for so many who struggle throughout Simcoe County.

Working on the causes has to be part of the plan. But with the cold upon us we also have to provide immediate assistance without any prejudice.
