Seasonal off-leash dog areas
Some municipalities, including Toronto, use seasonal off-leash designations to make better use of park spaces when they aren’t being used for their primary purpose.
Could the Town consider a similar approach here by designating certain sports fields or other suitable public spaces as off-leash dog areas during their off-season? This could provide residents with more legal opportunities to exercise their dogs off leash without requiring the Town to create entirely new dedicated spaces.
This seems like a practical idea. My family is not blessed with a dog so I don't have any experience with the off leash parks. One observation is that not all people are responsible and clean up thier business. The results are evident way too often, especially in the spring.
More objective information about this would help me form an opinion.

Accessibility issues. Our town is not accessible to get around- our town has several people in the comunity who need accessibility and don't get it. There are only 3 accessible buses in all of Simcoe County. Linx transit buses do not accommodate people who use mobility scooters. Linx transit stops are limited and Tottenham is completely inaccessible. This has been brought up to council members in the past and only one has taken the opportunity to take the time to respond. I would like to hear from all candidates, as it is not just the elderly who face these issues but families, children and parents. How can we connect New Tecumseth and make it so that EVERYONE can access resources and spaces?
Pecuniary Interest Disclosure: I have used the Linx bus on numerous occasions and also hold a Class F license for 24 passenger busses like the Linx Bus.
It is correct that Tottenham is inaccessible by bus, and any feelings of being disadvantaged are completely understandable.
As someone who has tried to use the bus on numerous occasions, I feel it doesn't serve as well as it should. And this is my opinion where I know that I probably have some of the best access to it in the whole town.
The one report mentioned that to include Tottenham would add 10 minutes to the total time, and so a third bus would be needed. I do intend to investigate this thoroughly and find a better way.
Amongst other things this is why I choose to run as the Mayor, so I can directly address the ineffective transit. I have already received some input on options and would appreciate additional thoughts on what success could look like for you and any improvements you might suggest.

For the Mayoral candidates. When, if ever, do you feel it is appropriate to use Strong Mayor powers?
Democracy and the principle that every vote matters are what separates us from authoritarian governments. Like any tool, Strong Mayor Powers can be misused. Currently I don't know of anything that might make them the best choice. Should the new council be fragmented and form unproductive alliances, then it is something that might cause them to reconcile and override the issue. Either way we should not be held hostage to the personality conflicts and I don't have any problem with motivating dialogue.
The saying goes "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink", so if needed feed it some salt. My objective is to do what is best for all of NewTecumseth and that may be salty on occasion for some.

Many people choose to live here because they want small town character and little or no growth at all. At the same time, the province is requiring municipalities to accommodate significant growth and new housing. How do you plan to balance those competing pressures — meeting provincial growth targets while still preserving the character and quality of life that residents value?
Character and quality of life are part of why I live here also. Part of what I consider as quality of life are the services provided.
Greater economies of scale are beneficial for everyone except those who don't want competition. The narrative the we resist growth discourages business investment.
Every small town in Southern Ontario can make the same claims, as New Tecumseth. So if we want to have a say in our growth we must get over the limiting beliefs that growth is not good.
We can generate employment and prosperity, there is no reason to wait for Queens Park to impose anything on us. Many big cities are also great places to live. Planning for transportation parks, parking, schools and so much more should not be a reaction to the provinces plans.

Would you support a new Beeton arena, even though it will lead to an approximately 5% property tax for this project alone?
The Beeton arena is a topic I have heard about since moving to New Tecumseth. It tends to come up as a sore point of broken promises.
No one should feel cheated and I understand the sentiment of injustice. The message comes across as "we deserve this".
Beeton has grown a great deal over the last few years. I would be interested to know numbers before I form an opinion. How many different users are we talking about across the different arenas? What is the cost per user and what do we charge them? Occupancy levels and demand levels etc.
The business case should make sense. If this is the best value for ALL residents, then we have to find a way to make it work. This shouldn't be an emotionally charged decision, rather a calculated rational action.
If someone has actual numbers, please share them.

As a resident of 20+ years, I’m concerned about the town’s appropriation of funds for much needed repairs. I’ve seen a steady decline in this regard over the years. I need to know that our mayor and council will put the town’s needs first - such as much needed proper repair of our town roads, using your voice to push for a new high school - for example.
As mayor, what can you say to instill some hope and faith that these needs will be met?
A new high school is a small step in the progress we need. Portable classrooms at every school is another sign of the insufficient value placed on education and children's development. As a parent of children in two elementary schools, I also find it to be a great disappointment.
The ironic thing is that Dr. Banting was a pioneer in the medical world, so by now we ought to have established a diabetes institute or something to further the work. Equally Dr. Donald Baxter has a legacy that we can learn from.
If we don't learn from our history then our further is in peril. Repair and upkeep are basic issues that shouldn't be neglected.
Vission for a better tomorrow and the courage to act will be needed to inspire the Millenials and Gen Z. They will be able to do greater things than anyone in history, if we lead them correctly. The power of dreams can transform our town in ways I can not yet imagine, but I am willing to shape the path for tomorrow's leaders.

I do love progress, but value the environment more. Until the environmental challenges related to water use and other effects, It is difficult to support the idea at the moment.
The supply restrictions of the necessary hardware make it very unlikely that we need to worry about one anytime soon. However that presents us with an opportunity to pivot into a growth industry. Can we find talent to go high tech?

New jobs require new ideas or established business willing to invest. Investor confidence is something that we have to work on. When the town complains about growing and wants to keeping the identity of the three separate areas, then other places stand a better chance of getting the edge.
With the wealth of skills and knowledge in New Tecumseth we can turn things around and build industries that thrive now and for generations to come. Dream Big and choose your path.

Why did downtown Toronto, next to subways and one of the largest cities in North America, allow backyard chickens as a pilot and we can’t try it as a rural town?
Initially I was in favor of the idea. I would personally love to see chickens take care of my garden pests. However looking at the bigger picture of biosecurity the risk is very high. Any sort of avian risk could have a catastrophic impact on our food security and stability. This is an area where we would have to carefully examine the risks with experts beforehand.

My privacy is valuable to me. Living in a police state is not what I want for my children.
Cybersecurity is a constant issue and I don't have confidence in anything online being impenetrable. As such I do not consent to mass surveillance.
Law enforcement have other options and tools to help them. If needed I would prefer to direct the resources to creating a social environment where we the people can look out for each other's interests and support the police by choice.
