Stephanie MacLellan is a lifelong resident of New Tecumseth. From Beeton she was elected in 2018 as councillor and again in 2022 as Deputy Mayor. A mother of 4 daughters she believes in building a community that they can thrive in. When she isnt at the council table or out at one the many amazing events in town, you'll find her at the baseball diamond. A constant community advocate and tireless volunteer, she hopes this October the voters of New Tecumseth will come together and bring needed change.
Communication is the Key to Good Effective Government. As Mayor I will keep that promise at the Town and at the County. That means respect for your tax dollars, growth that benefits the people already here, safer streets, and answers when you call. You work hard. So should your Mayor.

Is there a plan to complete the sidewalk on Stewart street?
Im assuming you are talking about Beeton's Stewart St? If that is the case unfortunately I actually live on Stewart St and would have to declare a conflict of interest on this discussion at Council. Best to reach out to Cllr Cox at [email protected] to ask about futures plans.

Why is our water and wastewater bills are higher than other municipalities?
Hi there! Thanks for the question. Out of 15 comparable municipalities 15th being the lowest rate and 1st being the highest rate New Tecumseth is number 10. I have a chart I can share with you (this forum wont allow me to attach a pic) send an email to [email protected] and I can share that chart with you! Unfortunately for a very long time New Tec water rates were based off the cost of producing the water - seems no one took into account that over the years this major assest needs fixing, upgrading and regular maintenance. Asset management should always be factored into the cost of service delivery.

What are the council doing to prevent young riders of e-bikes and scooters. There have been at least 2 accidents in my subdivision involving pre teens/young teens riding e-bikes hitting small children. Are parents being charged for allowing this underage use? Are licenses required to use motorized bikes and scooters in New Tecumseth?
Council has engaged with OPP multiple times regarding e-scooters. Most recently we passed a motion asking OPP to do a blitz for education and enforcement. Our bylaw department doesnt have the ability to pull over vehicles/scooters. I will be discussing this issue with OPP again as soon as the new council is elected. I agree we need more regulations which should come from the Province so engaging with our MPP is necessary as well. Thanks for the question.

Do you think it was the right description to build an ice rink over a pool, even though the town desperately needed a pool?
I have supported SHIFT through volunteering, advocacy and delivering support through council. I believe we have the means to care and help our most vulnerable while also keeping our downtowns safe for everyone including those without a place to sleep.
Homelessness is a growing issue across rhe country and the solution lies in the collaboration and pooling of resources from all levels of government. With the province defunding many of the services through DC reduction, our town needs to make an strong effort to lobby the province for funding.
I sit on the affordable housing committee at the County where I have advocated we need more transitional housing. I plan to continue those efforts as Mayor.

In your opinion, what is the best way to reduce homelessness in New Tecumseth? Further, are there any actions you are currently involved in that is meant to help this issue?

Will you investigate the continued short staffing concerns in County run Longterm Care homes causing burnout in staff and dissatisfaction in family members?
If elected I would address that directly through my seat on the County Council.
Understaffed LTC's are a major and growing concern. One we should continue to seek solutions for.
More staffing at facilities also brings more skilled workers into our communities so the importance of obtaining more on the ground staff isnt just health related its also economical.

Has any promise been made or given that might be perceived as unethical, or from a source of undue influence (financial or otherwise) Do you have backing from any developers, contractors or their agents?
Thank you for your question. I do not take campaign donations from developers, contractors or their agents - I never have.

What do you want to achieve in the next 4 years to help New Tecumseth become more environmentally sustainable and carbon neutral?
First, New Tecunseth can target heating emissions by enacting stricter Green Building Standards for new developments and retrofitting existing structures. Also implementing a Clean Energy Improvement plan allows property owners to fund energy-efficiency upgrades such as high-efficiency heat pumps and solar panels through low-interest loans tied directly to their property tax bills.
Second, New Tecumseth should transition its corporate and transit fleets away from fossil fuels. Electrifying municipal vehicles, while installing a network of public EV charging stations.
Third, reducing landfill waste is critical to stopping methane emissions. Expanding green bin organic collection and upgrading local landfills with methane gas capture systems can turn harmful emissions into usable green energy.
Finally, New Tecumseth must protect and expand their natural infrastructure. By leveraging funding from sources like the FCM Green Municipal Fund, we can expand our urban tree canopies which we have successfully started to do after being successful in getting a FCM grant. We should pass zoning laws that permanently safeguard wetlands and forests.
By combining green building regulations, fleet electrification, waste diversion, and natural asset management, I believe New Tecumseth can successfully pave a realistic, self-sustaining path to net zero emissions.
Thank you for your question.

Why did downtown Toronto, next to subways and one of the largest cities in North America, allow backyard chickens as a pilot and we can’t try it as a rural town?
Every term of Council Ive sat on backyard chickens has come in front of us. Ive supported it every time and think it can work here in New Tec. Id probably suggest a pilot project first to give us the opportunity to work out any issues that may arise but overall I absolutely support this idea!

Are there tax hikes planned for 2027? Taxes are high already in Alliston
If elected the first priority will be the 2027 budget. My plan is simple. Keep taxes low by finding efficiencies and removing expenses from the towns budget that do not benefit residents. A budget under my leadership will also be a collaborative effort with all of council that also includes the residents. You should know where your tax dollars are going without being an accountant.
